“My name is Dr. Andre Shih and I am board certified Anesthesiologist and board certified Critical Care doctor. I worked in academia for several years and now I coordinate a busy ICU and a busy anesthesia case load in a private practice specialty hospital. We purchased our first Mindray Veta 5 anesthesia machine about 1.5 years ago. I was very impressed with the results and shortly purchased two more units from Mindray. We used the ventilator mode in both the Operating room and in the ICU environment. For anesthesia the Veta 5 allow us to safely ventilate patients from a wide range of body weigh – from 3.5 to 75kg. The ventilator is quiet and TV setting extremely precise. It allow us to change from spontaneous ventilator to controlled ventilator with on flip of a buton. In the OR most of the patient are set on volume control. However, the Veta 5 allow us to change from volume control to pressure control or pressure assist mode easily. The PEEP button allow us to avoid atelectasis and recruit lung if needed. But what impressed us the most was how INTUITIVE the interface was. It is extremely user friendly. From the initial calibration leak test to setting up tidal volume /PEEP/ mode of ventilation. IN the ICU. I love that we have an anesthesia ventilator that can do PEEP. Most of the “anesthesia ventilators” could only do volume control and we were forced to add PEEP valves or demand valves to the hardware. What is not precise (nor safe) enough. Because of the portability, user friendly menu and quick set up time we are using more and more the Veta 5 as a bridge before bringing the long term ICU ventilator. Patient in ICU that benefited from the Veta 5 included patients with cardiogenic edema, pneumonia, pulmonary contusion, neurological abnormality and toxins exposure.”
