Probo Medical's has donated a portable ultrasound machine and printer to the Bai Bureh Memorial Community Hospital in Sierra Leone, South Africa. Through our partnership with the TRIMEDX Foundation, this ultrasound donation has significantly improved medical imaging access, crucially needed in an area where such resources are limited. Under the expertise of Dr. Hassan Sesay, who helps serve a community of more than 5,000 patients a year and scans an average of 320 diagnostic images a month, an ultrasound clinic is hosted four days a week to citizens who need lifesaving diagnostics in the area. On Sundays and Wednesdays the portable ultrasound is hauled more than 44 miles west across challenging terrains to Evans Medical Center to help spread access to all community members in need. The donated ultrasound equipment is the most affordable and accurate scan in the region, helping those access healthcare with their limited budgets.
With the help of Probo's donation, Dr. Sesay’s medical interventions have led to a 90% reduction in maternal mortality rates within the equipment’s first few months of use in the community. Dr. Sesay shares that "his joy in this intervention is when pregnant women listen and follow his advice, confident in their care". Through our partnership and the logistical help of the TRIMEDX Foundation, this ultrasound was able to make its way from Indianapolis, IN to Sierra Leone, South Africa to address the international need for medical equipment.
Through ultrasound donation programs, we are able to help utilize the power of ultrasound technology in developing countries, particularly for maternal health. Easily accessible and accurate ultrasound scans are vital for patients to receive healthy outcomes. This initiative marks a significant step forward in healthcare accessibility for the region and forwards Probo's mission to make healthcare available and affordable to all.
